Welcome to Kate's Behavior Supports

When you saw the words "behavior supports" a particular person or behavior came to mind. Yes, that person or behavior probably qualifies for support, especially if it impacts people's ability to provide care for the individual, impacts their safety or relationships or keeps them from meeting their own goals. I provide that support and have for nearly twenty years, working with many individuals across a wide array of settings. I love what I do and I like the individuals I work with. I spent a long time doing Direct Support because I enjoyed it although there were some difficult days. I learned that everyone needs support and everyone has challenging behaviors. That doesn't make someone defective or bad, it just makes them human.

I deliver:

Functional Behavior Assessments and Positive Behavior Support Plans written in simple to understand, commonly used language along with a collaborative process - I'm not always right and the people in the situation know best what day to day life is actually like.
In-person interviews and observations with friendly and non-intrusive visits that involve whatever is on the normal, daily schedule. I'm willing to do observations in multiple settings. Virtual interviews or observations avalable upon request.
Maintenance clients accepted without needing to redo an FBA/PBSP in most circumstances. Regular reviews to ensure group homes and foster homes remain in compliance with regulations. In-home maintenance tailored to the individual and their family.
Reasonable response times to questions or concerns even if it is something that I cannot help with or that is outside my level of expertise. I will at least acknowlege your email and let you know the answers to your questions so that you can make decisions that are best for you or the people you work with.

Comprehensive behavior assessments and tailored support plans to promote growth and development. Individuals can direct which behaviors they want to focus on the most in many cases particularly when they are the ones who do much of their own self-advocacy.

Positive Behavior Support Plans

Personalized support plans to empower individuals and foster success. PBSPs written to reflect the setting and the needs of the person including those that are simply proactive supports for the individual to implement on their own

Ongoing Maintenance

Ongoing support and contact that is tailored to the unique needs of the support network. This can be monthly meetings, quarterly reviews, whatever works best for the person and the support team

What types of behavior support services do you offer?

I offer behavior assessment, individualized support plans, and plan trainings. I also offer Temporary Emergency Safety Plans which will provide basic supports for the most concerning behaviors while the assessment and final support plan are developed.

How do you create personalized support plans?

Through a series of interviews and observations I create a document called a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA). This document summarizes the behaviors of concern as well as the person's history and serves as a snapshot of the individual as a whole.

Once the FBA is approved I will begin work on a Positive Behavior Support Plan which includes personalized proactive and reactive supports for all of the behaviors identified in the FBA.

In addition to offering proactive and reactive supports, the PBSP will identify the Alternative Funcional Behaviors expected to be learned by the application of supports. Alternative Functional Behaviors are "replacement behaviors" which meet the same function as the original behavior, only in a much safer and desirable way.

Parents and providers can expect to gain valuable skills and strategies to support the individual's behavior and development.
